Introduction

Founded in 1958, Wilmington Grammar School for Girls (WGSG) is a selective grammar for girls with a co-educational Sixth Form. It is a Kent-based school, catering for 840 pupils in line with an ethos that adheres to the motto In pursuit of excellence. [1]

WGSG has specialist status in mathematics and computing. Its curriculum aims to challenge girls, providing for their intellectual inquisitiveness through effective lessons across a variety of disciplines, including languages, sciences and humanities.

Beyond the classroom, the school offers pupils an array of opportunities to develop skills and gain valuable experiences. Whether it be studying Mandarin or participating in drama productions, the activities on offer ensure that girls perform at a high standard and grow a strong awareness of their own abilities. [2]

Wilmington Grammar School for Girls 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

To be considered for a Year 7 place at Wilmington Grammar School for Girls, prospective pupils must sit the Kent eleven plus test and achieve the required standard. As part of the admissions process, the school hosts Open Days and Open Evenings, allowing you and your child to visit the campus and ask any questions you may have about the overall offering.

WGSG often receives more applications than there are available places. In such instances, the school uses the following oversubscription criteria, giving priority to:

1. Children in Local Authority Care or previously in Local Authority Care
2. Children with a sibling at the school
3. Children whose parents are members of staff
4. Children who have scored highly in the maths section of the Kent Test and who reside within a 5-mile radius of the school
5. Children who live within 1.5 miles of the school and those that live in the relevant parishes*
6. Children in receipt of Pupil Premium who live within a 3-mile radius of the school
7. All other eligible girls.

How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to Wilmington Grammar School for Girls

As Wilmington Grammar School for Girls uses the Kent Test as a means of selection, parents must register their daughter for the exam. This is done through an online portal, which is available on the Kent County Council (KCC) website.

Parents are also required to complete the Secondary Common Application Form (SCAF), which should state Wilmington Grammar School for Girls as a school of preference. This process is usually completed online.

Following the exam, your child will receive three standardised scores, one for English, one for Mathematics, and one total score including Reasoning. In order to pass the exam, your child’s standardised score must be over 109 and their total score must be 332 or more. [1]
