Introduction

Watford Grammar School for Girls (WGGS) is an academy in Watford, Hertfordshire. A partially selective school, it has been educating able and ambitious girls since 1704. [1]

Watford Girls is a high-achieving school, offering a balanced and broad academic curriculum in an effort to ensure that each student achieves her own personal and academic goals. Staff are aware of the changing needs of the cohort, delivering teaching that’s both rigorous and engaging, as well as relevant.

Extracurricular activities play a vital role in the girls’ time at WGGS, with a variety of clubs and societies available. Students are encouraged to take part in at least three clubs per week to broaden their interests and make new friends. Everything from Eco-Committee and coding to Young Enterprise and Wind Band is on offer, complementing the lively character of school life. [2]

The ethos of Watford Girls embraces the notion that pastoral care and the overall objectives of the institution are inseparable. In essence, the school’s aims are intertwined, allowing the collective efforts of both teaching and non-teaching staff to play a vital role in the successful implementation of pastoral care.

Central to the school’s philosophy is the holistic approach to education, targeting girls’ personal growth, unique circumstances, talents and passions as matters of utmost importance.

Furthermore, WGGS places high value on the acknowledgement and celebration of students’ accomplishments. Most recently, 68% of GCSE results were grades 7, 8 and 9, confirming the school’s strong reputation as a desirable educational destination for girls in the area.
