Introduction
The Royal Masonic School for Girls is an independent day and boarding school located in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire. It was founded in 1789, with the aim of educating the daughters of indigent Freemasons. Nowadays, the school accepts the children of both masons and non-masons.
Throughout history, the school moved between premises three times, twice within London and finally in 1934 to Rickmansworth. It currently occupies a site of 316 acres in Rickmansworth Park.
RMS offers a nurturing, inclusive and supportive environment that fosters an individualised approach to each child.
Year 7 girls are taught mathematics, French, Spanish, English, science, Latin, geography, history, religious studies, computer science, physical education, art and textiles, music, dance, drama, food & nutrition and design technology.
RMS provides excellent pastoral care. In the Senior Department, teams of Form Tutors are led by a Head of Year who coordinates pastoral care. A qualified counsellor spends one day a week at RMS, scheduling confidential appointments with the girls if necessary. The support network includes a School Chaplain, also available to advise girls, parents and staff.
The school’s motto is Circumornatae ut similitudo templi (To be as the polished cornerstones of the temple) and its ethos encourages pupils to be compassionate and tolerant, as well as grow in integrity, responsibility and self-confidence.
