Stretford Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Stretford Grammar School is a member of the Trafford Grammar Schools Consortium. All schools in the Consortium use the same eleven plus test and admission to Stretford is determined by pupil performance in the exam.
All prospective families are encouraged to attend the school’s Open Evening in June. The event will help you identify whether Stretford Grammar is the best learning environment for your child.
In recent years, Stretford Grammar School has been consistently oversubscribed. In such cases, the school uses the following oversubscription criteria, giving priority to:
- Looked after, or previously looked after, children
- Children eligible for Pupil Premium (32 places)
- The top 20 scoring candidates, irrespective of home residence
- Children whose sibling attends the school
- Children who live within the catchment area
- Children who live nearest to the school, measured in a direct straight line from the child’s permanent place of residence to the school.

How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to Stretford Grammar School
In order to apply for a place at Stretford Grammar on behalf of your child, you must register them for the school’s entrance examination by the deadline in June. The application form is available on the school’s website.
In addition to completing the online registration form, you will also need to complete the Local Authority (LA) Common Application Form and indicate Stretford Grammar School as one of your preferences.

Stretford Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
Stretford Grammar School uses papers created by GL Assessment. The exam covers the following areas:
- Mathematics
- Verbal Reasoning (including Comprehension)
- Non-Verbal Reasoning (including Spatial Reasoning)
GL will be providing two papers, each lasting approximately an hour and testing all three skills.
The maths sections measure problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills and include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Verbal Reasoning sections are designed to assess logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary. These sections will also include Comprehension questions.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning sections measure the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge. These sections will include Spatial Reasoning questions, too.
