Introduction

St Teresa’s Effingham is an independent boarding and day school for girls in Effingham, Surrey. Established in 1928, the school is a member of the Girls’ Schools Association.

The curriculum covers art, English, Latin, mathematics, food preparation & nutrition, music, PE & games, computer science, geography, religious studies, drama, history, science, Chinese, French, Spanish, German and Japanese.

Offering a range of extra-curricular activities, St Teresa’s boosts pupils’ self-esteem and maximises their creative and academic potential. The programme of activities offers everything from African drumming, astronomy and public speaking to swimming, athletics and cricket, providing girls with opportunities to develop stamina, along with skills to thrive in the years to come.

Fully invested in expanding pupils’ cultural horizons, the school organises cross-border trips to destinations such as Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, Peru, Alaska and the States (New York).

On campus, girls benefit from numerous playing fields and grassland, spread across 48 acres of grounds of outstanding natural beauty. Unusual architectural and sculptural features further enrich its appeal, grounded in high standards of personal behaviour and strong moral and spiritual values which are heavily promoted by the staff.

Open Days are held twice a year, allowing you and your child to experience the atmosphere on campus, learn more about the school’s ethos and meet key members of staff. St Teresa’s School, Effingham, 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

To be considered for a place in Year 7, your daughter should be registered with the school before the deadline in October of the year preceding entry. The registration form should be submitted along with a £75 non-refundable fee. 

The 11+ exam will take place in the following November. There will also be an interview with a senior staff member, normally the Head. Offers of places are made later the same month. Please note that acceptance includes a payment of a deposit. 

St Teresa’s School, Effingham, 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries

The school offers scholarships in the areas of Academic ability, Art, Drama, Music or Sports, subject to availability. Academic Scholarships are awarded on the basis of performance in the 11+ exam. All the other awards are allocated following further assessments.

Art Scholarships are available to candidates with strong innate drawing skills and a clear passion for the subject. The school will request sketchbooks with observational drawings instead of a portfolio.

Drama Scholarships are awarded on the basis of participation in a group workshop, followed by an individual audition. Sports Scholarships are offered as recognition of strong ability and potential in at least one of the following: hockey, netball, swimming, athletics and cross country.  

Bursaries are also available, awarded to 11+ applicants from low-income families following a thorough means-testing procedure. Pupils whose parents serve in the armed forces are eligible for a 10% discount on the fees. There is also a siblings discount.
