Introduction
St George’s School is an independent boarding and day school in Ascot, Berkshire. Established in 1877, it has educated distinguished members of the aristocracy, as well as former prime minister Winston Churchill. St George’s is currently an all girls school, operating in line with the motto Vincent Qui Se Vincunt (They will conquer who overcome themselves). [1]

St George’s School, Ascot, 11 Plus (11+) Open Events
St George’s holds Open Mornings each term, allowing prospective families to visit the campus, learn about everything on offer and ask questions about the admissions process. Places for the events are booked through the admissions team.
The school also hosts a number of Taster Days for 11+ applicants. Some of them, such as Future Georgian Day, can only be attended following completed registration for a Year 7 place. You can view the school’s exact location on the map below:

With a set deadline in October of Year 6, registration includes a payment of a £125 non-refundable fee. Assessments take place the following November, including academic testing and interviews with the Head.
As part of the admissions process, St George’s will obtain references from your daughter’s current school. Please note that, on acceptance of a place, you will be asked to pay a deposit: £1,000 for day pupils and £2,000 for boarders.
St George’s School, Ascot, 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships are awarded in the areas of Academia, Sport, Art, Music, Drama, Swimming, Performing Arts and All-rounder fields. They carry a 10% remission of fees, while Exhibitions are valued at 5%.
Academic Scholarships are awarded following exceptional performance in the entrance examinations. Art awards are offered following an interview and a drawing test. Portfolios, containing a maximum of ten works, will also be considered.
Drama award applications are evaluated on the grounds of the quality of a pre-recorded audition. There will also be an interview and a drama workshop. More details about scholarships can be accessed through this page.
Full and partial help with the fees in the form of means-tested bursaries is also available. The evaluation process will include a home visit by BAL, an independent company seeking to establish the household’s financial circumstances.
If you decide to apply for a bursary, you will be informed of the outcome of your application at the same time as receiving an offer of a place for your child. Please note that bursaries are reviewed annually and may be withdrawn if your financial circumstances dramatically improve. More details are available here.
St George’s School, Ascot, 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The 11+ exam at St George’s School consists of the following assessments:
- English (paper)
- Mathematics (paper)
- CEM Select (online test)
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper will include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
CEM Select is an online test that examines your child’s skills in Verbal, Non-Verbal and Numerical Reasoning.
