Introduction

Skegness Grammar School was initially founded in 1483 as Magdalen College School, but took its current name in 1933. A co-educational day school, it occupies a beautiful campus on the seaside Lincolnshire town of Skegness and educates around 700 pupils aged 11-18.

Previously classed as a High Performing Specialist School, Skegness Grammar achieved academy status in 2012 and is currently sponsored by the David Ross Education Trust. [1] The school delivers a relevant curriculum, including sciences, technology, social studies and languages, and places particular emphasis on self-discipline and good manners.

When not studying, pupils can take part in a variety of extracurricular activities and enrichment programmes. Trips to far-off destinations, such as Canada, France and Spain, are organised regularly, maximising pupils’ social development in parallel with their cultural understanding. [2]

Skegness Grammar School’s top-notch provision is underpinned by incredibly professional staff, who demonstrate a passion for sharing their subject expertise. This is evident in recent examination results, with 95% of students achieving grades 9-4, including English and Maths. Furthermore, a significant 77% of students accomplished Grades 9-5 in the same core subjects.

Skegness Grammar School’s unwavering dedication to ensuring quality in educational opportunities empowers every student to unlock their potential. The school’s holistic approach not only prepares students for prestigious universities but also cultivates the skills and knowledge required for them to thrive in their chosen careers.

Skegness Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format

The 11 Plus Exam at Skegness Grammar School consists of two tests:

⦿ Verbal Reasoning

These sections test your child’s reasoning skills using language-based tasks, such as identifying patterns, completing analogies, solving codes and making logical deductions. They also measure your child’s ability to think critically and analyse information.

⦿ Non-Verbal Reasoning/Spatial Reasoning

The Lincolnshire 11+ Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR) sections test students’ ability to solve problems using visual and abstract reasoning. They do not rely on language skills but instead challenge students to identify patterns, relationships and sequences within shapes, figures and diagrams.

The Spatial Reasoning sections in the Lincolnshire 11 Plus Exam are designed to assess students’ ability to understand and manipulate visual representations of objects and space. Spatial Reasoning tests mental rotation, visualisation and problem-solving skills.

In order to select the top 25% of pupils, test scores are ranked in order and age-standardised.
