Introduction

Sheffield High School (SHS) is an independent girls’ school in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. It was founded in 1878, initially catering for 39 pupils. SHS is part of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), the largest group of independent girls’ schools in the UK. [1]

The curriculum includes art, design & technology, biology, business & economics, cookery & nutrition, science, drama, English, MFL, geography, history, computer science, Latin, mathematics, music and PE.

The school’s all-round education encourages girls to try out new activities within the scope of over 60 different extracurriculars. Sheffield High School for Girls 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

If you wish your daughter to be considered for a place in Year 7, you should fill in the online application form that’s available on the school’s website. She will then be invited to sit entrance examinations, held in January.

Places are offered approximately two weeks later, subject to successful performance in the exam and interview, as well as a positive report from her current school. Please note that, to accept an offer, you will be asked to pay a £300 deposit.

Sheffield High School for Girls 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries

SHS’ bursary scheme is managed and administered by the GDST. Bursaries are means-tested and usually awarded to some of the top 30% of candidates in the entrance examinations, based on performance. They can range from 30% up to a maximum of 100% of fees, depending on parental income and financial circumstances.

If you wish to apply for financial support, you should indicate that in the registration form. You will then be contacted with details on how to access the GDST online bursary application.

Scholarships are awarded on merit, taking into consideration performance in the entrance examinations (for Academic Scholarships) or audition/trial. To express your interest in Music and Sport Scholarships, you should tick the relevant box on the registration form. All scholarship awards can be combined with a bursary.
