Introduction
Ryde School with Upper Chine (Ryde School) is a co-educational independent day and boarding school in Ryde, on the Isle of Wight. It was founded in 1921 by William and Constance McIsaac with the aim of providing a Christian education for local boys.
The many Societies and Clubs included in the co-curricular programme complement Ryde’s rigorous curriculum. They range from Art, Athletics, Amnesty International and Badminton to Ceramics, Chess Club, Debating & Public Speaking and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
The provision of a world class education at Ryde School ensures that pupils flourish in mind, body and soul. All students are encouraged to grow spiritually and develop a sense of awe and wonder of the world in which they live.
By building and developing their character, skills and values in line with the motto That I may be of service, the school enables its pupils to make a positive difference in the community and beyond after they leave school.

The school’s admission procedure for Year 7 entry comprises entrance examinations, interviews, references from the current Head and disability assessments, if relevant.
The interview aims to explore your child’s interests, personal qualities and capacity to contribute to the school community. The entrance examinations cover three broad areas, assessing both acquired knowledge and potential.
If a place is offered, you will be asked to pay a £1,000 deposit in order to accept it. The deposit will be refunded or used to support the school’s Bursary Fund once your child’s career at the Ryde comes to an end.

In addition to full scholarships, exhibitions may be awarded, but they only have limited bursary support.
The McIsaac Award provides fee assistance to pupils who have potential but don’t necessarily qualify for a Scholarship. For more information, please visit the school’s website and consult the Scholarship Booklet.
