Founded in 1903, Rugby High School is a selective girls’ grammar based in Bilton, Warwickshire. Almost 800 students are split across four houses and participate in inter-house sports, music and charitable activities throughout the school year, benefiting from a friendly ethos that adheres to the motto She Sets Heights In Her Heart. Year 7 places at Rugby High School will be allocated on the grounds of pupil performance in the 11+ exam. You and your child should attend the school’s Open Day in June before applying for entry to ask questions about the admissions process and learn more about the extracurricular activities and overall provision.
In recent years, Rugby High School has been heavily oversubscribed for Year 7 places, so should there be more applications than available spots, the school will apply its oversubscription criteria until all places are filled. Priority will be given to:
- Looked-After and all previously Looked-After Children who achieve the qualifying score or above
- Pupil Premium recipients who achieve the qualifying score or above and live in the priority areas
- Children who live in East Warwickshire and who achieve the qualifying score or above.

How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to Rugby High School
As a member of the West Midlands Grammar School Consortium, Rugby High School opens its application process in May, with a deadline in June for all submissions via the consortium’s registration portal.
Additionally, don’t forget to file an application to your Local Authority (LA). On the LA Preference Form, you’re required to list and rank your school preferences. Not listing Rugby High School can lead to your child not being considered for a place there.
Results from the 11+ admissions process will be communicated in October. Official offers follow in March of the subsequent year.

Rugby High School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Rugby High School 11 Plus exam consists of two test papers, each lasting approximately 60 minutes. They cover:
- English Comprehension
- Verbal Reasoning
- Mathematics
- Non-Verbal + Spatial Reasoning
The weightings for the test results are 50% for English/verbal reasoning, 25% for non-verbal reasoning and 25% for mathematics.
The English Comprehension paper examines comprehension skills, including inference. There will be no writing component.
The Verbal Reasoning section of the exam assesses logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
The maths paper measures problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The exam will also cover Non-Verbal Reasoning or Spatial Reasoning, both testing logic and intelligence.
Results from the Rugby High School 11 Plus will be available to parents online in October, with final Year 7 place allocations published in March the following year.
