Introduction
Founded in 1888, Rochester Grammar School is a girls’ grammar school with academy status. It is the lead school in the Thinking Schools Academy Trus, providing its cohort of over 1,100 pupils with progressive, quality education. [1]
Rochester Grammar has high expectations of its pupils and, in return, endeavours to build their confidence by encouraging them to be independent thinkers. To ensure this outcome, the school provides an overarching curriculum that features everything from languages and technology to mathematics and science.
Thanks to the relevant curricular provision and effective teaching, students excel across the syllabuses. Recent examination results show that 61.1% of pupils achieved grades 7-9, highlighting their commitment to hard work and discipline.
The breadth of enrichment opportunities allows girls to explore their potential and engage in interactions freely, bonding with peers over shared interests. Choosing from Japanese, chess, Careers Hub, knitting, drama, Law Society, orchestra, cooking and many other pursuits, pupils gain an array of soft skills while growing in a spirit of intellectual enquiry. [2]
With all this and much more on offer, Rochester Grammar solidifies its firm standing among popular educational establishments in the area, nurturing an ethos that embraces diversity and encourages self-reflection. The grammar is also a proud holder of the UNICEF Silver Rights Respecting Schools Award, allocated to schools that have demonstrated exceptional progress towards embedding young people’s rights in every aspect of their practices.
