Introduction

 

Reed’s School occupies a leafy 40-acre site on the edge of the village of Cobham in Surrey. It is an independent day and boarding school for boys aged 11–18, with a co-educational sixth form. Of the 700 pupils at the school, approximately 100 are boarders.

 

The school was established in 1813 by the Reverend Doctor Andrew Reed as a school for orphans and, today, the school’s Foundation Bursary scheme still supports children who have lost one or more parent.

 

On the school’s spacious campus, restored Edwardian buildings sit side-by-side with state-of-the art contemporary facilities, including a purpose-built music school, complete with recording studio, and an indoor cricket centre with bowling machines and analytical equipment.

 

Pupils follow a broad academic curriculum in the first three years (prior to choosing their GCSE subjects), which includes Reed’s unique Year 9 FutureTech course: a cross-curricular programme incorporating robotics, computer-aided design, mathematical problem-solving and nanotechnology.

 

The academic curriculum is offset by the school’s co-curricular programme, with a strong focus on the arts and sport, and activities curriculum.

 

The school does not publish its examination results in national league tables, stating that ‘The value of an education should not be summed up in the results of a single exam, but instead in the adults our pupils become and the difference they make to the world.’

Open Events for Reed’s School 11 Plus (11+) Entry

 

The school holds regular Open Mornings throughout the year. They offer the opportunity to tour facilities, meet and talk to members of staff and hear a presentation from the Head. The tour ends with refreshments. Book your place here.

Reed’s School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

 

Registration for the entrance examinations should be done by the deadline at the beginning of November (of the year preceding entry). The tests are online and are taken in the following weeks. Please note that there will also be an interview.

Offer letters are typically posted in February and they have an acceptance deadline, set in March. To secure your child’s place at the school, Reed’s will require a deposit payment upon acceptance.

 

Reed’s School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries

 

Candidates who demonstrate outstanding performance in the entrance assessment will be invited back for an Academic Scholarship interview with the Head. Other scholarships  – for art, music and sport – are available at 11+ and are assessed separately.

Reed’s School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format

 

The 11+ entrance exam for Reed’s School consists of the following assessment:

 

• ISEB Common Pretest

 

The online ISEB Pretest examines your child’s ability in skills such as numeracy, problem-solving and vocabulary, with emphasis on how he thinks and responds to the curriculum. The test consists of modules testing Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning.
