Introduction

Rainham Mark Grammar School is a co-educational grammar school based in Medway, Kent. Previously known as Gillingham Technical High School, it provides a cohort of over 1,500 students with a friendly and caring environment. [1]

The curriculum develops pupils’ learning skills with the goal of inspiring depth of thought. As such, it maximises the cohort’s competencies across a range of subjects, including languages, PSHE, sciences and mathematics. 

Rainham Mark Grammar also encourages its students to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, including performing arts, sport and music. Frequent field trips and cultural exchanges offer children a myriad of opportunities to strengthen friendships and embark on memorable experiences with a spirit of exploration.

Lunchtime and after school clubs include Ukulele Club, Guitar Club, Film Club and Dungeons and Dragons Club, boosting pupils’ non-academic strengths as part of their all-round development. Admission to Rainham Mark School in Year 7 is determined by pupil performance in the 11+ exam. As part of the admissions process, prospective families are advised to attend the school’s Open Evening to get more information about the admissions process and meet key members of staff.

In the event of oversubscription, the school applies the following criteria, giving priority to:

1. Looked After or previously Looked After Children
2. Children who are eligible for Pupil Premium / Free School Meals
3. Prospective pupils with a sibling attending the school at the time of application
4. Children with specific health reasons for attending the school
5. Children of staff at Rainham Mark Grammar
6. Children who live closer to the school

How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to Rainham Mark Grammar School

To apply for a Year 7 place at Rainham Mark Grammar School, you will be asked to complete two application forms. Both of these forms can be found on the website of the Medway Council.

The registration form, available on this page, must be completed by the deadline in June of the year preceding entry.

The preference (CAF) form, on which you should indicate your child’s preferred schools in ranked order, can be found here. The CAF application deadline is in October.
