Written by Louise Lang

Northwood College for Girls is an independent school in Northwood, London, which is part of the GDST network of girls’ day schools. Founded in 1870, it produces excellent examination results, and has recently outperformed 95% of all UK schools for core subject GCSE results. [1]

Learning at Northwood College encompasses a rich selection of disciplines, including Classics, humanities, MFL, mathematics and computer science, allowing girls to access further education with a broad range of qualifications. Comprehensively preparing them for the challenges ahead, the school provides Emotional Resilience and Cognitive Learning programmes, designed to instill techniques and skills to serve this purpose.

Northwood College regularly organises day excursions and expeditions, familiarising girls with various cultural contexts and aesthetic settings. Far-off destinations have included Borneo, Peru and the US, while trips closer to home regularly feature visits to museums, theatres and galleries. [2]

Known as a facility that ignites intellectual curiosity, Northwood College produces young individuals who progress through the school with integrity and resilience. This typically results in excellent academic outcomes, which ensure that students access top universities in the country and abroad.

Northwood College Admissions Criteria

Northwood College is a member of the London Consortium and as such, follows its Agreed Code of Practice for all admissions. Year 7 is one of the college’s main points of entry and admission is determined by student performance in the entrance test.

Pupils are also required to attend an interview at the college. In this interview, the teaching staff will assess each child’s general intelligence and potential. Students must also be able to provide a character reference from their current school.

Year 7 places are offered based on a student’s overall performance in the entrance test, interview and reference. For further information on Northwood College’s Year 7 admissions process, please contact the Registrar.
