Introduction
Located in Newport, a market town in Shropshire, Newport Girls’ High School (NGHS) is a selective all-girls school with academy status. It boasts specialist status in both maths and computing and splits pupils into three houses (Seacole, Roddam and Austen), which compete with each other in a range of activities throughout the academic year. [1]
The rich selection of curricular opportunities at NGHS includes humanities, languages, performing arts, science and design technology. The balanced provision is supported by experienced staff, who cater to varied learning styles and abilities in line with the school’s progressive ethos.
PSHE lessons are delivered to familiarise girls with their civic responsibilities, boosting their abilities to form fulfilling relationships and keep themselves and others safe. This programme also helps students grow in an awareness of important issues that characterise modern society, with particular emphasis on understanding the principles of democracy, such as respect for differences. [2]
The co-curricular offering introduces an additional dimension to learning, diversifying and enriching the school experience. The majority of clubs and societies on offer aim to inspire enthusiasm and kindle a sense of joy, including everything from orchestra, Cultural celebration club and saxophone ensemble to fashion & textile club, choir and Japanese club. [3]
Recently, NGHS surpassed its own historical record with an impressive 90% of GCSEs at grades 7-9, thus marking a remarkable academic milestone. Newport is high on the list of in-demand schools in the area, recognised for strong results that aim to set a new national benchmark for excellence.
