Introduction
Mayfield School is an independent boarding and day school for girls located in Ilford, London. Facilities include school libraries, specialist Drama, Mathematics, Music and IT rooms, a MFL department, Art rooms and Science Laboratories.

Open Events for Mayfield School 11 Plus (11+) Entry
Open Mornings offer families the opportunity to meet members of staff, hear from the Head and take a pupil-led tour of the school. Packed with fun activities, these events are held each term.

Mayfield School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Following the visit, the next step would be to register your daughter with the school. Please note that the registration fee of £150 is non-refundable.
The entrance assessments for 11+ applicants take place in November of the year preceding entry. Your daughter’s conduct during the interview with the Head and the quality of her reports and confidential reference will also be taken into consideration.
An offer letter will be sent by Christmas. To accept the place, you will be asked to complete an acceptance form and return it with a deposit, which will secure your daughter’s place at Mayfield School.
Mayfield School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
The school offers scholarship awards in the following disciplines: Academic ability, Creative Arts, Drama, Music, Sport, Riding and Dance. Please note that Academic Scholarships are awarded on the basis of successful performance in the entrance exams, hence separate applications are not required.
The Jubilee Scholarship is awarded each year to a practising Catholic pupil from a primary school in the Arundel and Brighton Diocese who demonstrates academic potential and a capacity to contribute to the Chaplaincy at Mayfield.
Finacial assistance with paying the fees in the form of means-tested bursaries is available to 11+ applicants from low-income families. For more details, please follow this link or reach out to the school directly.
Mayfield School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Mayfield School 11+ entrance examination consists of the following papers:
- English (60 minutes)
- Mathematics (60 minutes)
- Reasoning (Verbal and Non-Verbal) (30 minutes)
The English paper examines both comprehension and writing skills, including inference, spelling, vocabulary and punctuation. Marks will be awarded for good use of imagination, creativity, form, purpose, organisation, cohesion and sentence structure.
The maths exam assesses your child’s problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills. The paper will include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Verbal Reasoning section of the Reasoning paper is primarily designed to test and assess logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning section of the Reasoning paper measures the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, assessing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
