The outcomes of the Lincolnshire Consortium entrance exam act as a common benchmark for making admission decisions across the consortium’s grammar schools. Students who demonstrate exceptional performance in the exam are granted the chance to be considered for admission to multiple schools within the consortium. Lincolnshire Grammar Schools 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Year 7 admission to all the grammar schools in Lincolnshire is subject to pupil performance in the 11+ exam. When your child is in Year 5 or 6, you will have the opportunity to attend your preferred schools’ open events, which include a tour of facilities and talks by senior members of staff.
Each of the Lincolnshire grammar schools fully comply with Lincolnshire County Council’s coordinated admission arrangements for Year 7 and are part of the Lincolnshire Grammar Schools’ Consortium.
How to Register for the Lincolnshire Grammar Schools 11 Plus (11+) Exam
To apply for a Year 7 place at one of the grammar schools in Lincolnshire on behalf of your child, you should should complete a Common Application Form (CAF) and apply directly via the Local Authority (LA) website to register your child for an 11 Plus exam place.
Lincolnshire Grammar Schools 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The 11+ test for the Lincolnshire grammar schools consists of two multiple-choice papers, testing:
- Verbal Reasoning (about 50 minutes)
- Non-Verbal Reasoning with elements of Spatial Reasoning (about 40 minutes)
The exam provider is GL Assessment and the topics evaluated in the test are as follows:
➢ Verbal Reasoning: These sections test your child’s reasoning skills using language-based tasks, such as identifying patterns, completing analogies, solving codes and making logical deductions. They also measure your child’s ability to think critically and analyse information.
➢ Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR): These sections test students’ ability to solve problems using visual and abstract reasoning. They do not rely on language skills but instead challenge students to identify patterns, relationships and sequences within shapes, figures and diagrams.
➢ Spatial Reasoning: These sections are designed to assess students’ ability to understand and manipulate visual representations of objects and space. Spatial Reasoning tests spatial awareness, mental rotation, visualisation and problem-solving skills.
Results from the 11+ exam will be communicated in October and places will be allocated in March.
Lincolnshire 11 Plus (11+) Exam Pass Marks and Target Scores
Grammar schools in Lincolnshire assess 11+ candidates using a formal, multiple-choice format exam. The majority of schools have a qualifying standard based on an age-standardised score, which ensures that all applicants are fairly assessed.
The exam aims to identify the top 25% of children (based on ability) living in the area. In both Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning papers, students should achieve a standardised score of 220 in order to be considered for a place.
Pupils who are able to score 80%+ consistently in our 11+ Lincolnshire practice tests should be on track to pass the 11 Plus.
Whilst there are no guarantees, this has historically been a fairly strong indicator that your child should do well in the Lincolnshire 11+ exam.
Passing the test does not guarantee that your child will be offered a place. It simply means they have surpassed the required threshold. As such, it makes sense to aim for as high a score as possible.
Don’t worry if your child is not scoring well in our practice papers from the outset. With targeted practice and focus, it’s possible to make big improvements in a short amount of time!
