Introduction
Founded in 1878, Lawrence Sheriff School (LSS) is a boys’ grammar in Rugby, Warwickshire. In 2014, it became an academy and currently educates over 800 boys aged 11-18. In previous years, LSS has seen substantial investment to improve its facilities, and is now home to expansive rugby pitches and a regional and local table tennis centre. [1]
Academically, LSS provides a varied programme, including a relevant curriculum that features MFL, mathematics, sciences, technology and many other subject options. In this way, the school helps prepare students for their future endeavours, grounding their learning habits in consistency and grit.
Non-academically, Lawrence Sheriff School prides itself on a wealth of sporting, artistic and community-oriented opportunities. From MedSci, robotics and The Apprentice to wind band, maths puzzles and Eco Committee, the activities on offer ensure that students smoothly transition into the next stages of their lives, boasting diverse skills that will help them flourish in their chosen paths. [2]
At Lawrence Sheriff School, a balance between what is expected and what is achieved is understood as vital to attainment. The school promotes the belief that real happiness comes from facing and overcoming challenges, which is a big part of the school’s approach to teaching and learning.
Accordingly, LSS’ philosophy nurtures the idea that true satisfaction comes from pushing boundaries and encouraging one another to do the same, so the school’s ethos is centred on stimulating pupils intellectually as opposed to promoting simplistic learning and mediocrity in education. Recent GCSE results confirm the school’s effective policies, as 76% of all Year 11 students achieved grades 7-9. [3]
