Introduction
Lady Margaret School is a Church of England secondary school for girls in Fulham, London. Rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted in its most recent report, Lady Margaret School has a house system made up of six houses, each named in honour of a notable person from the school’s history. [1]
Both supporting and challenging students, the establishment delivers a wide-ranging curriculum, which encompasses languages, natural sciences, humanities, technology and other relevant disciplines. Engaging academic offerings help prepare the cohort for the opportunities and responsibilities of adulthood, maximising their in-class learning experiences for this purpose.
Non-academically, Lady Margaret is a thriving institution, providing for girls’ changing interests to the full. Book club, cricket, contemporary dance, touch-typing, STEM club, debating, volleyball and jazz band are just some of the popular pursuits on offer, all enriching the quality of school life.
Highly successful drama provisions allow pupils to expand their artistic abilities and explore their strengths through interactions with peers. The facilities are superb, and over the past few years, the drama department has conducted an Activities Week programme, providing students with the chance to attend a variety of productions at renowned venues, including the historic Globe Theatre and the innovative National Theatre. [2]
Lady Margaret’s motto is I have a goodly heritage, and its community is a place where learners flourish across all spheres of their development. Curiosity about the world is highly encouraged within the context of understanding it as God’s creation, and this perspective is rooted in a deeply Christian vision that guides all the school’s endeavours, helping mould learners into compassionate and conscientious members of modern-day society.

Lady Margaret School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Families are encouraged to visit the school in the Autumn term to learn more about everything on offer. In this way, you commence the first stage of the admissions process, which encompasses meetings with key members of the staff and tours of the facilities.
As part of registering, you will be asked to complete two forms on behalf of your child:
– Common Application Form: Should be submitted to your Local Authority by the end of October in Year 6
– Additional Information Form: Should be submitted to Lady Margaret School by the same deadline
As part of the admissions process, your daughter will be asked to sit a banding test in November of the year preceding entry. The school categorises applicants based on the performance of the entire cohort taking the test. There will be three bands: Band 1 for the top 25%, Band 2 for the middle 50%, and Band 3 for the lower 25%. Additionally, applicants will be split into those applying for a Foundation Place and those applying for an Open Place, resulting in six categories. (Foundation Places are for girls who attend a Church of England church, whereas Open Places are for girls of any or no religion.)
25% of the girls admitted to the school will be from Band 1, 50% will be from Band 2 and 25% will be from Band 3. More places are available to those applying for a Foundation Place than for those applying for an Open Place.
If there are more applicants than places available, the school will use its oversubscription criteria, giving priority to:
– Looked After or Previously Looked After Children
– Applicants whose siblings already attend the school
– Applicants who live closer to the school
Please note that girls with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) will be admitted before the application of the over-subscription criteria.
Offers are posted in March. If your child receives an offer, you should inform both the Local Authority and the school whether you wish to accept or decline it.
