Introduction

The King’s School, Rochester is a co-educational independent day and boarding school in Rochester, Kent. It’s part of the foundation of Rochester Cathedral and is possibly the second oldest continuously operating school in the world (founded in 604 AD). The Bishop is the Patron, and the Dean and Chapter form part of the Governing Body.

Known for promoting academic rigour, the school encourages an education that goes beyond the classroom and enables young people to make the most of all of their abilities. King’s Rochester Preparatory School offers a stimulating, purposeful and caring community where pupils are trained for life as their talents are discovered through outstanding specialist teaching.

Within small classes, students receive individual attention both academically and pastorally. The broad and balanced curriculum enables pupils to strive towards excellent academic achievement whilst ensuring that their broader skills of communication, teamwork and leadership are explored through the many extra-curricular activities on offer.

They are taught art, computing, drama, English, general science, geography, modern languages, history, mathematics, music, physical education/games, PSHEE and religious studies.

Music is a very important addition to the livelihood of the Preparatory School’s community. Individual instrumental lessons are available on most major orchestral instruments. Pupils also regularly perform in the Orchestra, Wind Band, Brass Ensemble, Rock Band, String Orchestra and Choir.

PE and Games encompass Athletics, Cricket, Fencing, Hockey, Netball, Rugby, Swimming and Tennis.  Many of the King’s Rochester pupils regularly represent the school in competitive fixtures.

In accordance with the school’s motto Disce aut discede (Learn or leave), education at King’s Rochester, in all of its shapes and forms, is of utmost priority.
