Introduction

King’s High School for Girls, known as King’s High, is an independent school for girls aged 11–18. It is part of the Warwick Independent Schools Foundation, along with Warwick Prep and Warwick School.

Kings High has been named The Sunday Times Independent Secondary School of the Year 2019 for the West Midlands. It follows a relatively traditional curriculum, which is enhanced by its ‘Boost’ and ‘Inspire’ programmes, which offer academic support and enrichment. The strong academic focus of King’s High is offset by an offering of over 130 different co-curricular clubs and activities each week.

In terms of performance, King’s High recently ranked 21st nationally among independent girls’ schools and 49th among all independent schools in general, with 74% of GCSE grades awarded to its students being in the top A*–A (9–7) range.

King’s High 11 Plus (11+) Open Days

Visiting the school prior to applying for a place is an essential part of the King’s High admissions process. This is typically organised through the Registrar’s office. The school recommends that you schedule a visit in the Spring or Summer Term when your child is still in Year 5.

King’s High 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

If you wish your daughter to be examined and considered for a place in Year 7 at King’s High, you must complete the application form for registration and return it to the school along with a copy of her birth certificate and a non-refundable registration fee of £75. The deadline for applications is in early September of the year preceding entry.

The entrance examinations are paper-based and they take place in October of the year preceding entry. A reference from your daughter’s current school will also be taken into consideration during the selection process. Results are communicated later the same month and the deadline for acceptance is in early March.

King’s High 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries

Scholarships and Foundation Awards (means-tested bursaries) are available. All candidates who sit the entrance exam are automatically considered for Academic, English and Mathematics Scholarships, valued at 20% of fees.

A separate application must be made for scholarships in the following areas:

• Design Technology
• Drama
• Music
• PE

The evaluation procedure includes a review of a portfolio (for art awards); drawing objects from observation and producing a small scale model (for DT awards); auditioning (for drama awards); taking an ability test (for dance / gymnastics awards), etc. Furthermore, all applicants will attend an interview with a member of staff.

Bursaries are awarded on the grounds of financial need. Free or discounted places are offered following means testing, which typically includes a home visit and further thorough evaluation of the household’s financial circumstances.
