Introduction

Founded in 1902, Kesteven and Sleaford High School (KSHS) is a selective school for girls in the market town of Seaford in Lincolnshire. It currently teaches around 800 pupils. A member of the Robert Carre Trust, the school provides a calm and purposeful learning atmosphere and produces strong examination results. [1]

KSHS’ curriculum is aimed at effectively developing pupils’ competencies across a multitude of areas, including computing, humanities, languages and science. Actively preparing girls for the challenges of tomorrow, the school’s offering is both balanced and challenging, maximising the cohort’s intellectual curiosity and confidence.

The extracurricular provision is just as relevant, featuring everything from debating, Book Club and netball to rugby, table tennis and the DofE scheme. Girls are offered numerous opportunities to participate in community-focused initiatives, especially fundraising events, which not only enhances their understanding of the needs of others but also fosters their spirit of empathy and compassion. [2]

Recently, an impressive 94% of pupils achieved grade 5 or above in English and Mathematics. This accomplishment underscores Kesteven and Sleaford’s high academic standards and the effectiveness of their teaching strategies, as well as the success of their governance. [3]

It also says a lot about the quality of the pastoral care system. By focusing on individual needs, staff meticulously preserve, nurture and amplify the resilience and adaptability of each student within the dynamic school community. This tailored approach significantly contributes to the overall well-being and personal growth of every girl attending KSHS, maximising her chances of success in future endeavours.

Kesteven & Sleaford High School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format

The 11 Plus Exam at Kesteven & Sleaford High School consists of two tests:

⦿ Verbal Reasoning

These sections test your child’s reasoning skills using language-based tasks, such as identifying patterns, completing analogies, solving codes and making logical deductions. They also measure your child’s ability to think critically and analyse information.

⦿ Non-Verbal Reasoning/Spatial Reasoning

The Lincolnshire 11+ Non-Verbal Reasoning (NVR) sections test students’ ability to solve problems using visual and abstract reasoning. They do not rely on language skills but instead challenge students to identify patterns, relationships and sequences within shapes, figures and diagrams.

The Spatial Reasoning sections in the Lincolnshire 11 Plus Exam are designed to assess students’ ability to understand and manipulate visual representations of objects and space. Spatial Reasoning tests mental rotation, visualisation and problem-solving skills.

In order to select the top 25% of pupils, test scores are ranked in order and age-standardised.

How to Prepare for the Kesteven & Sleaford High School 11 Plus (11+) Exam

At Exam Papers Plus, we advise that students create a revision plan in the early stages of their exam preparation and combine this with 11+ mock tests. These help track your child’s progress and allow you to understand your daughter’s strengths and weaknesses.

We strongly suggest setting up a study schedule, which includes studying ‘little and often’. The more prepared students feel before the assessment, the better they are likely to perform.

Our 11+ practice tests are used by thousands of students every year because they are practical and effective, successfully replicating the format, layout and timings of the actual test. They will significantly enhance your daughter’s confidence ahead of the exam, leading to improved performance and a greater chance of success.
