Introduction
Ipswich School is an independent school located in Ipswich, Suffolk. The Senior School occupies the main school site and is settled in Grade II listed buildings, which are a distinctive example of Victorian architecture.
Pupils in the Lower School are taught English, maths, French or Spanish, art, DT, Classics, drama, geography, history, philosophy, religion and ethics, Principles of Science, swimming and PE.
The co-curricular programme comprises Music, Sport, Drama and Club activities, whilst trips outside the UK have included journeys to India, Peru, Ethiopia, Ecuador and Borneo. Recently, the school became one of the first in the country to organise trips to Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, where pupils explored the Silk Route cities of Samarkand, Khiva and Bukhara.

Application forms for Year 7 entry can be accessed through the school’s website. Upon receipt, the school will request a confidential report from your child’s present school.
The entrance exam is held in November of Year 6, aiming to assess your child’s academic potential. All candidates sitting the entrance exam are automatically considered for Academic Scholarships.
Acceptance of a place is confirmed with a payment of a deposit. It also involves your commitment as a parent or guardian to uphold the School Rules and Regulations, which are sent to the parents of all successful 11+ candidates.
Ipswich School 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries

Ipswich School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Ipswich School 11+ entrance assessment consists of the following papers:
- English
- Mathematics
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
The English paper assesses your child’s comprehension and writing skills. They will be allowed to spend 30 minutes on Section A (reading) and 30 minutes on Section B (writing).
The maths paper tests problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning assessment is designed to test the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
