Introduction
Hymers College is a co-educational independent school. It caters for pupils aged 3-18 and is located in Hull. It was built on the site of the Hull Botanic Gardens and opened in 1893.
The Senior School (Years 7-11) provides pupils with a broad and challenging curriculum. In Years 7 and 8, the curriculum includes, amongst other subjects, English, maths, sciences, Latin, music, reading skills, art and drama. Outstanding specialist teachers mean that pupils progress well and are able to reach their full academic potential. The 2023 GCSE results pay testament to this: an impressive 64% of the grades were in the 9-7 range.
Outside of the classroom, pupils can get involved in a wide range of activities, clubs and societies, thanks to an extensive extra-curricular programme. Gardening Club, Greek Club, dance, choir, fencing and Army Cadet Force are just a few of the pursuits on offer, enabling students to develop their existing skills and discover new talents.
Pastoral care is taken very seriously at Hymers College, with the school promoting kindness, respect and inclusivity so that the school environment is a warm, safe place to be. The most recent ISI report comments on how pupils feel well looked after and know what to do if they have any concerns.
