Introduction

Howell’s School is an independent school for girls in Llandaff, a district in northern Cardiff. Founded in 1860, Howell’s is one of Wales’ top performing independent schools.

The Year 7 curriculum comprises art & design, drama, English, geography, history, ICT, MFL, Latin, mathematics, music, PE, product design, religious studies and science.

The school has approx. 40 co-curricular clubs on offer, which include various drama, music and sports activities. These provide girls with opportunities to further develop their skills, interests and passions.

Howell’s School, Llandaff, 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

The 11+ entrance examinations take place in January of the year preceding entry. As part of the admissions process, your child will be interviewed by a senior staff member.

Registration for places includes a payment of a £125 fee, which is non-refundable. On acceptance of an offer, you will be asked to pay a £750 refundable deposit to secure your child’s place at the school.

Howell’s School, Llandaff, 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries

At 11+, Howell’s School offers Academic, English, Mathematics and Music Scholarships. These are modest financial awards, usually valued at 5% of the school fees.

Honorary Scholarships are awarded to pupils who are narrowly unsuccessful in obtaining a scholarship. They provide the applicant with a status of Honorary Scholar and are a recognition of her potential and commitment to a particular area.

The GDST Bursary Fund provides financial assistance to suitably qualified students whose parents are unable to afford the fees. It comes in the form of means-tested bursaries, which can cover up to 100% of fees and are available to students entering the school in Year 7.
