Herschel Grammar School is a selective, co-educational grammar located in the large Berkshire town of Slough. An academy school, it provides a broad and balanced curriculum to approximately 900 students. [1]

Herschel Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
There are currently 150 Year 7 places available at Herschel Grammar School and admission is determined by pupil performance in the 11 Plus exam. Unlike many other UK grammar schools, Herschel hosts an information evening for parents only. The event, which takes place in April, enables parents to find out more information on the school’s admission process.
Admissions to Herschel Grammar School are coordinated through the Slough Consortium of Grammar Schools and parents must register online ahead of their child’s 11+ exam date. In cases of oversubscription, the school will adhere to the following criteria, giving priority to:
- Students who are, or have previously been, in looked-after care
- Students who reside within the catchment area
- Students who have a permanent home address within 10 miles of the school and who are eligible for the Pupil Premium (up to 10 places)
- Students whose parents are permanent members of the school staff.
The remaining pupils will be ranked in order of their performance in the entrance exams.

How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to Herschel Grammar School
To apply for a Year 7 place at Herschel Grammar School, parents must register their child with the Slough Consortium in the first instance. Herschel Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Herschel Grammar School 11 Plus exam consists of two papers, produced by GL Assessment, which cover the following areas:
- English
- Verbal Reasoning
- Mathematics
- Non-Verbal Reasoning (including Spatial Reasoning)
The English Comprehension paper examines comprehension skills, including inference. There will be no writing component.
The Verbal Reasoning section of the exam assesses logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary.
The Mathematics paper measures problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The exam will also cover Non-Verbal Reasoning and Spatial Reasoning, both testing logic and intelligence.
