Introduction
Grey Coat Hospital is a secondary academy for girls in Westminster, London. Operational since 1698, it holds specialist status in languages and educates pupils in accordance with the motto God Give The Increase. [1]

All prospective families are advised to attend Open Days prior to applying for a place at the school. At 11+, the school offers:
- Languages Aptitude Test places – up to 15 places are allocated on the basis of performance in this test, which is sat in the first half-term of Year 6. In the case of a tie-breaker, a place will be offered to the applicant who lives closest to the school.
- Church of England / Other Church/ Open places – the school will admit 136 pupils on the basis of performance in a banding test. Places will be allocated into three ability bands:
➢ Above average ability (Band 1) = 25%
➢ Average ability (Band 2) = 50%
➢ Below average ability (Band 3) = 25%
Please note that Open Places (for up to 20 applications) don’t apply any faith-based criteria.
Applicants who are unsuccessful in one category can be considered for another category that’s more appropriate. Accordingly, those who fail to gain entry through the language route, can be considered for Church of England entry, etc.
The Language Aptitude Test takes place in October of the year preceding entry. The Banding Test will take place on Assessment Day, held in December of the year preceding entry.
