Introduction

The Godolphin and Latymer School is an independent day school for girls in Hammersmith, West London. Recently voted the Sunday Times Independent Secondary School of the Year, Godolphin and Latymer named its six houses in honour of prominent female figures, such as Laura Bassi, the first woman to earn a professorship in physics at a university, and Hallie Quinn Brown, an African-American educator, writer and activist. [1]

Closely monitoring the development of university requirements, the school offers a varied curriculum, comprising subjects and specifications which ensure girls’ smooth transition into the next stages of their education. Staff deliver lessons for Mandarin, mathematics, technology, humanities, computing and PSHE, among others, boosting students’ capacity for critical thought through vigorous teaching and engaging in-class discussions.

To maximise girls’ all-round development, Godolphin and Latymer provides a number of extracurricular clubs and societies, ranging from chess, anime and Writers Society to astronomy, debating and Feminist Society. Additionally, the school invests in enhancing their communication skills and love of diversity through trips and expeditions, regularly featuring exotic destinations such as Malaysia, Iceland, Borneo, Swaziland and Mozambique. [2] [3]

Godolphin and Latymer’s rich history doesn’t stop it from being a forward-looking school. On the contrary, its heritage shapes its strong character alongside its commitment to providing a space where different cultures, faiths and backgrounds can thrive. This and much more on offer complements the dynamic learning environment and the culture of respect pervading the school’s community, noted as one that gives girls the confidence to flourish even in unfamiliar situations.

Godolphin and Latymer School is a member of the London Consortium and follows its Agreed Code of Practice. The main entry point to Godolphin and Latymer School is in Year 7 and admission is determined by student performance in the school’s entrance test.

Following the examination, prospective pupils will be assessed principally through an interview and must also provide references from their current school.

The London Consortium’s policy is to offer places based on a student’s overall performance in the 11+ exam, interview and reference(s). This means that Year 7 entry is not determined by performance in the exam alone.
