Introduction

Francis Holland School (SW1) is an independent day school for girls in central London, near Sloane Square. Recognised for its creativity and innovative ethos, it has been educating girls since 1870 and currently caters for around 600 pupils. [1]

The selection of curricular opportunities includes philosophy, English, MFL, science, 3D study, computing and Latin, among others, contributing to the relevant education for which the school is known. A number of extension activities are also available, including creative writing workshops, play readings and competitions, allowing girls to comprehensively prepare for the next stages of their education and lives altogether.

Numerous co-curricular clubs, typically taking place after classes, further enrich the school’s offering. Girls get to pursue a range of interests and discover further passions, choosing from ballet, orchestra, photography, Environment Club, swimming, pilates and Engineering Club. These and many other pursuits are known to enhance pupils’ learning capacity and physical agility, as well as refine their understanding of various social and cultural phenomena. [2]

Charity fundraising and other community related activities are an important component of the Francis Holland educational philosophy. The development of compassionate people is firmly embedded in the school’s ethos, hence girls become conscious of their duties and social responsibility very early on and enthusiastically partake in various charity events, organised by the school on a regular basis.
