Introduction

Fort Pitt Grammar School is a selective girls’ grammar with academy status in Chatham, Kent. Educating around 900 pupils aged 11-18, its beautiful campus includes listed buildings. [1]

Fort Pitt Grammar’s curriculum aims to boost pupils’ aspirations, providing a relevant offering that caters for a range of academic interests, including mathematics, sciences, technology and humanities. Teaching staff’s primary goal is to instil in girls a lasting love of learning, encouraging them to think both critically and creatively in the face of difficulty.

The school operates a house system, and pupils from all six houses compete in a number of events throughout the school year, including sports days and inter-house quizzes. Furthermore, students actively participate in a wealth of extracurricular activities and embark on adventurous annual trips to exciting locations, both within the UK and abroad.

Recently, 42% of all grades achieved were at the distinguished 7-9 level. These robust exam results, combined with comprehensive pastoral care, continue to solidify the school’s positive reputation among local families.

Fort Pitt’s ethos aligns with core British values, underpinning a lively community of ambitious learners who approach interactions with empathy. By providing for pupils’ needs to the fullest, the school ensures that the students make informed choices about their futures, and therefore places them on the route to both personal and professional success. Fort Pitt Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

There are 150 Year 7 places available at Fort Pitt. Ahead of submitting an application, the school encourages you to come to their October Open Evening to see if the learning environment is a good fit for your daughter.

As part of the 11+ admissions process, she will be asked to sit a selection test. If your child doesn’t go to a Medway primary school, they will have to sit the test in a Medway Council test venue.  Please note that passing the test is not a guarantee of a place. If there are more successful applicants than places available, which usually happens, Fort Pitt Grammar School will admit pupils in accordance with their oversubscription criteria, giving priority to:

  • Looked After or previously Looked After Children
  • Prospective students whose siblings attend the school at the time of application
  • Daughters of staff members
  • Prospective pupils who live within 2 miles of the school
  • Prospective pupils residing within the relevant parishes (see more details in the sections below)
  • All other eligible students based on the distance of their residence from the school
