Introduction
Edgbaston High School for Girls is an independent day school for girls located in the Edgbaston area of Birmingham. Through a mix of tradition and innovation, the school offers a balanced education whilst providing its students with amazing opportunities for learning and discovery.
The broad curriculum includes English, drama, mathematics, sciences, French, Spanish, German, Latin, geography, history, RS, ICT, art and design, DT, music, PE and Learning to Learn.
The variety of extra-curricular activities on offer helps develop girls’ talents, teach them new skills and test their initiative. The school has art, science, gym and dance clubs, as well as more formal groupings for debating and public-speaking coupled with the Young Enterprise and Duke of Edinburgh Award Schemes.
Girls can also take part in the Technical Crew programme, where they learn audio-visual, sound and lighting techniques to assist school productions. The school organises a number of residential trips, both abroad and in the UK.
In line with the school’s motto Fideliter, Fortiter, Feliciter (Faithfully, bravely, successfully), girls benefit from the outstanding education provided by the school, underlined by recent GCSE results, with a pass rate of 95% and 55.1% at grades 9-7 (equivalent to A*/A).

Open Events for Edgbaston High School 11 Plus (11+) Entry
Edgbaston High School for Girls hosts open events for Seniors in September and June. The Summer Term event includes a pupil-guided tour of the school during which you and your daughter can discover first-hand the special atmosphere at EHS.

Edgbaston High School (EHS) 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Edgbaston High School is a selective school, assessing girls on the basis of entrance examinations as well as an interview. A current-school confidential report will be requested as this plays an important role in the admissions process.
In its initial stage, you should complete a registration form and include relevant information for scholarship or bursary applications. The registration fee is £75 (non-refundable). Note that acceptance of registration does not automatically lead to an offer of a place.
The closing date for applications for entry to Year 7 is in September. The entrance examination will take place in October.
Edgbaston High School (EHS) 11 Plus (11+) Scholarships and Bursaries
Scholarships are awarded annually at 11+ and are based on your daughter’s performance in the entrance examination. All girls who sit the 11+ entrance examinations are automatically considered for an Academic Scholarship.
The Dixon Academic Scholarship is awarded to an external candidate from the maintained sector. The Anthea Cadbury Scholarship is open to all candidates. The Martineau Scholarship is offered for excellence in music, and is awarded following the entrance examination and a practical assessment of a girl’s performance with an instrument and her musical understanding.
EHS Scholarships are awarded to candidates who have performed outstandingly well in the entrance examination. The value of scholarships is up to 50% of fees and is applied until the end of a girl’s education at the school.
A limited number of means-tested bursaries are available to girls who show good academic ability. Bursaries are dependent on parental income, may cover a percentage of the school fees and are granted at the discretion of the Head.
Note that both parents must be in paid employment in order for a bursary application to be considered. Bursaries are annually reviewed and may be amended according to changes in the family’s financial circumstances.
