Introduction

Established in 1957 as a Technical High School, Dane Court is a co-educational grammar in the coastal town of Broadstairs, Kent. It caters to approximately 1,250 pupils aged 11-18 and has Specialist Language College status, investing a significant amount of resources into promoting languages within its community. [1]

Dane Court’s curriculum is designed to equip students with the skills they need to succeed in their chosen career path. English language and maths take up much of each student’s time, while science lessons delve into biology, chemistry and physics.

Students can choose between three modern foreign languages: German, French and Spanish, as well as explore other exciting courses such as history, geography and philosophy. Food preparation lessons teach practical cooking skills, PE keeps students active, while citizenship courses encourage global thinking.

The abundance of extras includes trips and exciting expeditions, aimed at maximising the benefits of Dane Court’s well-rounded educational offering. Spain, Zambia and Iceland are just some of the most popular destinations, allowing students to develop firm friendships while exploring their capacity for cultural and social development within an unfamiliar setting. Dane Court Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

Admission to Dane Court Grammar School is determined by student performance in the Kent 11 Plus Test. The school is consistently (and heavily) oversubscribed. In cases where the number of applicants is greater than the spaces available, Dane Court uses the following oversubscription criteria, giving priority to:

• Children who are presently or were previously in Local Authority Care
• Children with specific medical/health and special access requirements
• Students in receipt of Pupil Premium
• Students who already have a sibling at the school
• Students who live closest to the school.

How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to Dane Court Grammar School

To apply for a Year 7 place, parents must complete the Secondary Common Application Form (SCAF) and name Dane Court as their child’s preferred grammar. Prospective pupils should also be registered for the Kent PESE Test. This is done through an online portal, accessed on the Kent County Council webpage.

Following the exam, your child will receive three standardised scores, one for English, one for Mathematics, and one total score including Reasoning. In order to pass the exam, your child’s standardised score must be over 109 and their total score must be 332 or more. [1]
