Dame Allan’s Schools are a collective of independent schools, comprising a co-educational Nursery and Junior School, a Senior School for girls, a Senior School for boys and a co-educational Sixth Form. Admissions Process for 11 Plus Entry to Dame Allan’s

We hope the following numbered points make the admissions process easy to understand:

1. Visiting Dame Allan’s is a great way to start the admissions process. This will enable you to see if you think your child will be happy at the school. You can attend the Open Morning in September or arrange a personal visit. You can even arrange for your child to attend a Jump In! day, giving your child the chance to experience life at the school before sitting the entrance assessment.
2. If you can see your child thriving at Dame Allan’s, you should complete the registration form and pay the £30 registration fee. For Year 7 entry, the school recommends you submit your form at least a year in advance. However, the deadline is in December of Year 6 
3. Your child will then sit an entrance assessment in January of Year 6. They will also be interviewed as part of a small group and participate in team-building activities. Additionally, a reference will be required from your child’s current school.
4. In March of Year 6, you will find out if your child has secured a place.

Academic scholarships are available for Year 7 entry and are worth up to 50% of the fees. 

Bursaries Available for Year 7 Entry

Bursaries are available to pupils joining Dame Allan’s in Year 7. Bursaries are worth up to 100% of the fees and are means-tested. They are awarded to candidates who excel in the entrance exam and are keen to embrace all Dame Allan’s has to offer but whose families cannot afford the fees. 

If you wish to apply for a bursary, you will need to indicate that on the registration form. You will then be sent a bursary application to fill out. It will be necessary for you to provide proof of your income and assets.

Details of the Year 7 Dame Allan’s Online Entrance Test

 

The online assessment applicants will take for Year 7 (11+) entry comprises the following sections:

• English
• Maths
• Verbal reasoning
• Non-verbal reasoning 

The English section will include a reading comprehension that assesses your child’s ability to understand a given passage and make inferences. There may also be questions testing spelling, punctuation and grammar.

The maths section will cover topics from the national curriculum, including geometry, statistics and measurement. Your child’s mathematical problem-solving skills will be put to the test.

The verbal reasoning section will evaluate your child’s ability to solve problems using written information. They will need to apply logic, be able to read fluently and solve problems to do well in this part of the assessment.

The non-verbal reasoning section will examine how well your child can solve problems by analysing visual information, such as pictures, shapes and diagrams.
