Introduction
The Crypt School, located in Gloucester, has a long history dating back to 1539. It was established to provide an exceptional grammar education to both boys and girls. To this day, it continues to uphold this tradition.
The school transitioned to academy status in 2011, became fully co-educational in 2018, and remains one of the most prestigious schools in the country. It has over 1000 students in five distinct houses: Brown, Henley, Moore, Raikes, and Whitefield.
The school boasts a comprehensive curriculum covering core subjects such as maths, science, and English, but also offers opportunities for students to explore their passions beyond the classrooms. The Crypt School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
To be considered for a Year 7 place at The Crypt School, prospective pupils must achieve the required standard in the 11 Plus exam. The school’s admissions are centrally-coordinated by Gloucestershire County Council and parents who wish their child to sit the 11+ test for the school must complete the Gloucestershire Grammar Test Registration Form.
With an average of five applications for every Year 7 place at The Crypt School, in the event of oversubscription, the school will give priority to:
- Looked after, or previously looked after, children
- Children eligible for Pupil Premium
- Children of selective ability whose parents are members of staff at the school for at least two years
- All other children of selective ability.

How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to The Crypt School
The Crypt School uses the same eleven plus test from GL Assessment as the other grammar schools in Gloucestershire. To apply for a Year 7 place at the school, you must complete a Common Application Form (CAF) online via the Local Authority (LA), as well as a test registration form, available via the school’s website during the registration period.
Please note that you must also include the school as one of your child’s choices on the CAF. You will receive 11 Plus results in October and the LA will send out official place allocations in March of the following year.

The Crypt School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The Crypt School test consists of two multiple-choice papers that cover the following subjects:
- English Comprehension, Vocabulary and Verbal Reasoning
- Mathematics and Non-Verbal Reasoning (including Spatial Reasoning)
Both tests are taken on the same day and each session lasts about an hour.
How to Prepare for The Crypt School 11 Plus (11+) Exam?
