Introduction
Churcher’s College is an independent day school for girls and boys, founded in 1722 upon the will of Richard Churcher to educate local boys in the skills needed for service in the merchant navy.
Churcher’s College is known as a school that places high efforts on maximising the potential of each pupil whilst offering a happy, well-disciplined and caring environment where self-esteem, moral values and leadership are seen as vital to the school’s philosophy.
The school teaches English, mathematics, science, modern languages, Humanities, technology, performing and creative arts and sports. Pastoral care is at the heart of the school, ensuring that every pupil feels valued and supported, thus enabling them to achieve academic success and fully enjoy the various extra-curricular activities on offer.
Based on excellent formal and informal interactions between pupils and staff, the pastoral programme includes a number of adults within the school community to whom pupils can talk, and who demonstrate genuine concern and compassion for them. The particularly accessible and reassuring pastoral staff comprises a Head of House, a Form Tutor, School Nurses, a Counsellor and Chaplains.
Within the co-curriculum programme, STEAM activities perpetually grow in popularity amongst pupils because they are fun and practical, involving investigation into topics that interest and engage them. Through experiential learning, STEAM activities assist the development of problem-solving skills amongst children, whilst fostering their love for innovation, education and leadership.
The school’s extra-curricular programme offers Brain Games, Indoor Climbing, Gaming Club, Backstage Club, Science Club, Greenpower Club (electric cars), Digital Photography, Mandarin and Martial Arts.
Overseas expeditions take place regularly and include trips to Europe and Africa with destinations such as Romania, Norway, Poland, Iceland, Sweden and Morocco.
The school’s community fully embodies the motto Credita Caelo (Entrusted to the heavens), instilling in pupils traits that make them incredibly supportive, tolerant and understanding of their peers, as well as considerate individuals with an excellent standard of personal development in their adult years.

Why do some of the recommendations above show me grammar school papers?
The main difference between independent and grammar school papers is the question format. Independent schools usually assess with standard format questions, which means students need to write out full answers. Grammar schools usually use multiple-choice format questions.
Whilst Churcher’s College is an independent school, they actually use the grammar school (multiple-choice) format for some of their exams, which is why they are included in the recommendations above.
Our practice tests aim to show what sort of questions have been included in Churcher’s College 11+ past papers. The information provided about Churcher’s College is believed to be correct at the time of publishing. However, please be aware of future changes. We advise you to contact the school directly if you are unsure of anything. School contact details are provided within the article.
