Introduction

Bournemouth School for Girls is a grammar academy established in 1918 and located in Bournemouth, Dorset. What’s unique about it is that it’s a humanities specialist school. It admits approximately 1200 girls aged between 11 and 18. 

The school strives to provide pupils with the best pastoral care and education. From the classroom to sports fields, drama, music, and a myriad of extra-curricular activities, its students have numerous opportunities to thrive.

Bournemouth School for Girls has a curriculum that transcends the traditional classroom experience. It’s immensely proud of its wide variety of extra-curricular offerings, providing over 50 clubs and activities available every week during lunchtime.

Bournemouth School for Girls has implemented a house system that involves deputy captains forming the senior team. Within each house, students are assigned a particular area or responsibility. Students’ roles relate to athletic activities, the performing arts, and philanthropic causes. Each house proudly bears the name of an influential female leader who has positively impacted their respective field: Jane Austen, Marie Curie, Rosalind Franklin, Rosa Parks, Christina Rossetti, and Marey Shelly.

The school encourages its pupils to work hard, show kindness, and be ambitious. It believes that successful education is not only about excellent academic results but also about developing spiritually, culturally, and morally.

Bournemouth School for Girls aims to provide a selective education to its pupils. Admission to the school in Year 7 follows the procedure as agreed by the co-ordinated admission arrangements.

Girls are admitted to the school based on their performance in the entrance examination, which is the same exam administered by the consortium. Although the exam is the same across every school, each has its own admissions authority and over-subscription criteria.

Bournemouth School for Girls encourages prospective students and their parents to attend their open evening, which takes place in July and September. Pupils will have the opportunity to meet the school staff and visit the school grounds.
