Boston High School 11 Plus (11+) Entrance Exam Information 2025

Introduction

Boston High School was founded in 1921 and admits students aged 11-18. It is a selective grammar school for girls with a co-educational sixth form that’s located in Boston, Lincolnshire. In 2013, Boston High became an academy whilst retaining its original name. The school operates a house system, with each house named after significant figures in its history: Allan, Conway, Ingelow, Kitwood and Lindis. [1]

Ranging from art, computing and DT to foreign languages, sciences and religious studies, Boston High’s curriculum aims to prepare students for success in the years that follow. The school is committed to helping pupils embrace the many educational opportunities on offer, introducing them to the challenges of adult and working life through an extensive careers education programme.

The variety of co-curricular pursuits comprises chess, orchestra, rounders, gardening, netball, textiles, basketball and many other activities. Learning beyond the classroom holds great value in the Boston High school community, underpinning its vibrant and lively character to the full. [2]

Strong qualifications are regarded as a crucial stepping stone to the continuous achievements of students. Accordingly, girls yield outstanding results, with impressive performances at both A-Level and GCSE.

In addition to academic preparation, the school also places great emphasis on facilitating the cohort’s social proficiency, necessary for them to thrive in their later lives. Accordingly, Boston High’s leavers are not only receptive to challenges, but they are also proactive, community-oriented individuals, who tend to exercise impressive leadership and problem-solving skills.

Boston High School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

Boston High School admits pupils based on their results in the 11 Plus exam. Therefore, only pupils who achieve the desired results will be considered for entry to the school.

Students who satisfy the entry requirements are offered a place, although it should be noted that passing the 11 Plus exam doesn’t guarantee your daughter a place at the school.

In cases where there are more qualified students than available places, the school uses its over-subscription criteria to determine admissions. Priority is given to:

• Looked After children and previously Looked After children
• Pupils in receipt of Pupil Premium and free school meals
• Pupils with siblings already attending the school at the time of admittance
• Pupils who live closer to the school.

How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to Boston High School

In order to apply for entry to Year 7 at the school, your child needs to be registered to sit the 11 Plus exam. The registration form can be found on the Boston High School website and should be completed and submitted before the deadline date in March.

Please note that you will be asked to complete your Local Authority’s CAF and return it by the deadline in October.

The Verbal Reasoning test is held in September, usually at your daughter’s primary school. Those who do not attend a designated primary school will take it at BHS. Around a week later, the Non-Verbal/Spatial Reasoning test takes place, following the same arrangements.

Results of the 11 Plus exam are posted in October and offers are sent out in the following March.

Is Boston High School part of a Consortium?

Boston High School is part of the Lincolnshire 11+ Consortium, a group of schools that use the same entrance exam format and share a very similar admissions process.

Does Boston High School have a catchment area?

Boston High School doesn’t have a formally defined catchment area. However, as part of its oversubscription criteria, it will prioritise children who live closer to the school.

In order to select the top 25% of pupils, test scores are ranked in order and age-standardised.

Boston High School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Pass Marks and Target Scores

The exam aims to identify the top 25% of children (based on ability) living in the area. In both Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning papers, students should achieve a standardised score of 220 in order to be considered for a place.

Pupils who are able to score 80%+ consistently in our 11+ practice tests should be on track to pass the Boston High School 11 Plus.
