Introduction
Bishop’s Stortford College is a co-educational independent day and boarding school for pupils from the ages 4 to 11. Its 130-acre campus is located on the edge of Bishop’s Stortford in Hertfordshire. The school celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2018.

The school invests in the students’ overall well-being by making online resources available to them, such as The Mindfulness in Schools Programme, a program run by Monash University on the FutureLearn MOOC and the Smiling Mind program.
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people are secured via specific processes and procedures which support families, pupils, staff and volunteers. All members of the teaching staff are trained in Safeguarding.

Open Morning offers a fantastic opportunity to see the school via a guided tour and hear a talk by the Head. You will also have a chance to speak to staff, current pupils and current parents.

Bishop’s Stortford College 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
After visiting the school, you may wish to register your child for a place. Once completed, the application form should be submitted with a payment of a £100 registration fee.
Your child will then sit (paper-based) entrance exams. There will also be an interview with a member of the senior staff. Based on their performance, your child may receive an offer of a place (in February).
The acceptance form that comes with the offer letter should then be completed and returned to the school by March, together with a £2,500 fee. For boarding pupils, acceptance of places also includes a payment of a deposit, which amounts to £11,000.
Bishop’s Stortford College 11 Plus (11+) Exam Format
The 11+ exam at Bishop’s Stortford consists of the following papers:
- English
- Mathematics
- Non-Verbal Reasoning
The English paper focuses on both writing and comprehension skills, including spelling, grammar and inference.
The mathematics paper is designed to measure your child’s problem solving and arithmetic skills. The paper will include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning paper is designed to test the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge.
