Introduction

Bishop’s Stortford College is a co-educational independent day and boarding school for pupils from the ages 4 to 11. Its 130-acre campus is located on the edge of Bishop’s Stortford in Hertfordshire. The school celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2018.

Bishop’s Stortford College offers boys and girls exceptional opportunities to become fulfilled, skillful and happy adults. It provides an all-round education that includes academic, moral, spiritual, athletic and creative growth.

By immersing in an environment of discovery and wholehearted participation, every child is given enough room to demonstrate their talents and abilities. The comprehensive curriculum covers art, design & technology, drama, English, geography, history, ICT/Computing, Latin, mathematics, modern foreign languages, music, PE, religious education and science.

Furthermore, through a combination of ICT/Computing lessons and the PSHE and Empower programmes, the students’ knowledge and capabilities to make use of technology safely and responsibly are fully secured.

Time and space for academic work at Bishop’s Stortford College are balanced by sport, music, drama and a broad range of other activities including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.

The school invests in the students’ overall well-being by making online resources available to them, such as The Mindfulness in Schools Programme, a program run by Monash University on the FutureLearn MOOC and the Smiling Mind program.

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people are secured via specific processes and procedures which support families, pupils, staff and volunteers. All members of the teaching staff are trained in Safeguarding.

Open Morning offers a fantastic opportunity to see the school via a guided tour and hear a talk by the Head. You will also have a chance to speak to staff, current pupils and current parents.

Bishop’s Stortford College 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

After visiting the school, you may wish to register your child for a place. Once completed, the application form should be submitted with a payment of a £100 registration fee.

Your child will then sit (paper-based) entrance exams. There will also be an interview with a member of the senior staff. Based on their performance, your child may receive an offer of a place (in February).

The acceptance form that comes with the offer letter should then be completed and returned to the school by March, together with a £2,500 fee. For boarding pupils, acceptance of places also includes a payment of a deposit, which amounts to £11,000.
