Introduction

Barton Court Grammar School was originally founded as Barton Court Grammar School for Girls before World War II. The current school is a selective, co-educational Academy of Excellence, situated in Canterbury, Kent, and educating approximately 840 students aged 11-18. [1]

The curriculum at Barton Court Grammar School is designed to prepare pupils for their chosen higher education and career paths. It offers all the core subjects such as English, science and maths, and a range of further subjects that allow every student to explore their interests.

Enrichment Day and Enrichment Week are unique features of Barton Court Grammar School. These events allow students to try different activities, discover their passions, increase independence and make new friends. Pupils can join lunchtime and after-school clubs, go on trips with classmates, or participate in sports activities.

Music enthusiasts can attend concerts, while drama buffs can enjoy theatre productions. Exciting competitions include Maths Challenge, Biology Olympiad and many others.

The school’s mission is to instil good values and a strong sense of right and wrong. Every pupil is placed into a carefully selected tutor group when they join the school, taking into account their own preference, that of their parents, as well as any suggestions from the student’s primary school teachers gathered during the transition.

Barton Court Grammar School wants students to have a clear idea of what they want from their future when they graduate. There’s a renovated “Wellbeing” room in the old school house that each student can visit if they want to talk through any problems they may have or discuss their future. Barton Court Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

Admissions to Barton Court Grammar School are handled by a Co-ordinated Admission Scheme, administered by the Kent Local Authority. Students are normally admitted in Year 7, after having gained a place through the Kent Procedure for Entry to Secondary Education (PESE).

In the case of over-subscription, places are determined by a set of criteria in priority order. The criteria includes:

• Children in local authority care
• The family’s current association with the school
• Special needs, or health reasons
• The proximity of the school to the student’s home
  
  

For parents who wish to apply for a place for a child that doesn’t fit the normal age group, a request needs to be made to the school’s Head as early as possible. This enables the admissions authority to make a decision before the application closing date.

In such cases, the student in question is expected to have attained the appropriate level in the Kent PESE Tests, although attainment is not a guarantee of a school place. How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to Barton Court Grammar School

The registration process for entry to grammar schools in Kent commences with registration for the 11+ test using an online portal. It also includes the completion of the Secondary Common Application Form (SCAF). Please note that you are only allowed to name four schools. The SCAF should be submitted to Barton Court Grammar School by the deadline specified on the form.

Barton Court Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Exam Pass Marks and Target Scores

Following the exam, your child will receive three standardised scores, one for English, one for Mathematics, and one total score including Reasoning. In order to pass the exam, your child’s standardised score must be over 109 and their total score must be 332 or more. [1]
