Introduction

Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School (BRGS) has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1701 as Newchurch Grammar School. It relocated to its present location in 1913 and was subsequently renamed Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School. Today, the school maintains its co-educational and selective status, admitting students based on their performance in the 11 Plus exam. [1]

With an enrollment of approximately 1,300 pupils, BRGS offers education from Year 7 to the Sixth Form. The grammar is well-regarded for its strong academic performance, consistently ranking highly in UK school league tables. Recently, 21.8% of all GCSE grades were at the highest grade 9.

Bacup & Rawtenstall Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions

BRGS admits students primarily from Bacup, Rawtenstall and the surrounding areas. Year 7 places are allocated based on student performance in the school’s entrance examination, which takes place in September. The school has approximately 180 Year 7 places each year.
