Altrincham Grammar School 11 Plus (11+) Admissions
Year 7 entry to Altrincham Grammar School is based on performance in the 11+ entrance examination. All admissions arrangements are published on the school website prior to registration opening.
You will be notified of the outcome of your son’s application on National Offer Day, which usually takes place in early March. If your child is offered a place at the school, you must accept the offer via the Local Authority.
Once a place has been accepted, the school will send more details about their Transition Day, Induction Evening and school uniform arrangements.

How to Apply for 11 Plus (11+) Entry to Altrincham Grammar School for Boys
In order to apply for a Year 7 place at the school on behalf of your son, you need to register him for the entrance examinations, which take place in September. Registration is completed online using the school’s online application form, and the closing date for this is in June.
In addition to completing the online application, you also need to complete the Common Application Form (CAF) and submit it to the Local Authority. Please note that you must list Altrincham Grammar as your son’s preferred school on the CAF form in order for him to be considered for a place in Year 7 at this grammar.

Altrincham Grammar uses test papers created by GL Assessment. The exam covers the following areas:
- Mathematics
- Verbal Reasoning (including Comprehension)
- Non-Verbal Reasoning (including Spatial Reasoning)
GL will be providing two papers, each lasting approximately an hour and testing all three skills.
The maths sections measure problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills and include questions on number, measurement, geometry, algebra and statistics.
The Verbal Reasoning sections are designed to assess logical thinking, use of English language and vocabulary. These sections will also include Comprehension questions.
The Non-Verbal Reasoning sections measure the ability to understand, interpret and problem-solve, testing logic and intelligence rather than knowledge. These sections will include Spatial Reasoning questions, too.
