Introduction
AKS Lytham (AKS) is an independent, co-educational school located in Lancashire, England. It was formed after the merger of King Edward VII and Queen Mary School (KEQMS) and Arnold School in Blackpool.
AKS occupies a 35-acre site in Lytham St Annes and is a member of the Round Square group of schools, a vibrant network of schools in 50 countries that provide a world-class approach to character education.
The school invests in all aspects of the educational process and regularly updates appropriate curriculum models so that the academic achievements of students are at the highest level possible.
Their preparation for success beyond school is secured by a broad curriculum that comprises lessons in art, biology, business studies, chemistry, computing, design & technology, drama, English, modern languages (French, German and Spanish), geography, history, maths, music, physics, PE, religious studies and science.
The pupils’ sense of self-awareness, emotional wellbeing and personal initiative is further developed within the co-curricular programme, which includes a variety of academic clubs, such as debating, quiz, history and science (within the senior school).
Sports clubs include hockey, netball, rugby, football, rugby, athletics, cricket, rounders, cross country, tennis and golf.
In the last five years, 51% of GCSE exams taken at AKS were awarded grades 9-7/A*-A; 60% of all A-level grades were A*, A or B and over a third were A*/A.
A great contribution to the success of the school is its innovative Learning to Learn programme which helps students maximise learning and thus utilise their potential to the fullest. The school also provides a Beach Schools programme which uses the beaches in Lytham as an environment for exciting outdoor learning experiences.
