Introduction
Brighton College is an independent co-ed boarding and day school in Brighton. Founded in 1845, it has international campuses in Abu Dhabi, Bangkok and Dubai and is the first public school in the country to sign a deal with the Chinese government to encourage the teaching of Mandarin and Chinese language and culture. [1]
Being a forward looking school with a cosmopolitan ethos, Brighton offers a broad academic programme that features many disciplines, including IT, science, mathematics and DT. Both form and specialist teachers are fully invested in enabling pupils’ intellectual growth, thus it comes as no surprise that they jointly designed Story of Our Land, a course which integrates history, philosophy, geography and religion into one comprehensive introduction to Britain’s history. [2]
According to the ISI, pupils in the Senior Department feature an excellent understanding of the world beyond school and boast sophisticated social skills which help them navigate it. In order to preserve this successful outcome, Brighton offers 100+ co-curricular activities, helping children discover pursuits and interests they feel passionate about. Whether they choose coding, fencing, philosophy, yoga, chess or MUN, pupils make the most of their time at school and have plenty of fun with peers, learning about the benefits of collaborative effort and teamwork early on. [3]
Brighton places care for the individual at the heart of its priorities. Thus, the pastoral system is well developed and well integrated, ensuring that respect, inclusivity and acceptance are central to all activities on campus. Benefitting from contagious positivity and high standards of conduct which pervade the school’s community, children mature into articulate and resourceful young adults who proactively approach complex life situations.

Why do some of the recommendations above show me grammar school papers?
The main difference between independent and grammar school papers is the question format. Independent schools usually assess with standard format questions, which means students need to write out full answers. Grammar schools usually use multiple-choice format questions.
Whilst Brighton College is an independent school, they actually use the grammar school (multiple-choice) format for some of their exams, which is why they are included in the recommendations above.
Our practice tests aim to show what sort of questions have been included in Brighton College 11+ past papers. The information provided about Brighton College is believed to be correct at the time of publishing. However, please be aware of future changes. We advise you to contact the school directly if you are unsure of anything. School contact details are provided within the article.
Please note that Exam Papers Plus is an independent publisher of practice tests and resources, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Brighton College.
