7 plus (7+) Exam – Lady Eleanor Holles (LEH) – What you need to know
Table of Contents
The junior school proudly creates a supportive ‘family’ atmosphere, with an ethos on academic excellence in a stimulating environment. Standards are understandably high in all areas and girls generally work in advance of their chronological age. The school aims to nurture independence following a four ‘R’ framework, ‘asking girls to be ready, resourceful, resilient and reflective in their approach to learning’.
Opportunities in music and extra curricular activities are plentiful. Sport plays an important role in the life of the school, with girls enjoying significant achievement at both regional and national level in netball, swimming and gymnastics. Facilities include a 25m heated pool on site.
Parents find the breakfast club from 7.30am and tea and prep club until 6.00pm very helpful. This is available at an additional cost.

Lady Eleanor Holles: Destination Schools at 11+
Although it is states in the LEH prospectus that most girls progress to the Senior School without the need to take the school’s 11+ exam, we felt it useful to clarify the situation by quoting directly from their separate admissions procedure for internal candidates:
‘In Lower II, each girl’s performance and attitude during her time in the Junior Department will be reviewed, to assess whether she is already clearly suitable as a candidate for entry to the Senior Department, able to meet the academic standard required and able to benefit from and contribute to its ethos and activities….
…As a result of this assessment, at the end of Lower II a girl may be offered a guaranteed place in the Senior Department, without the need to take the 11+ test or to be interviewed. Alternatively, if she is not already clearly a suitable candidate for entry to the Senior Department, she will not be offered a guaranteed place. If this is the case, her parents may still enter her for the Senior Department through the 11+ test and interview process arranged for external candidates. She will, unlike external applicants, however, be guaranteed an interview…
…Girls who join the school in the Spring Term of Lower II or later will be required to follow the procedure for external candidates.’
Scholarships and Bursaries: LEH Junior School does not offer scholarships and bursaries at 7 plus.
Other Entry Points: 11+, 16+
