Head Mr. Tim Smith
Hampton Prep School (formerly Denmead School) has recently moved to brand new premises on the Gloucester Road which feature a ‘stunning, state-of-the-art building’ with eco features including an alpine-plant studded roof. The school is a light, spacious and energising place in which to learn and work. Facilities include: eight classrooms, two IT suites, purpose-built art room, library, music rooms and performance hall.
Early drop off at 7.45am and the option for extra-curricular and late stay until 5.30pm makes the school day helpful for parents.
Teaching is closely aligned to the National Curriculum but independent schemes of work are produced (and reviewed annually) to provide children with opportunities to extend their learning and enable them to ‘tackle a range of tasks and activities that best match the breadth and depth of their abilities and then extend them.’
Hampton Prep’s ‘three Rs’ are: ‘richness, relevance and rigour.’
There are 36 places in year 3. It is assumed that boys coming from Hampton pre-prep will automatically be offered a place at Hampton Prep at seven plus, subject to them meeting the required standards of behaviour and progress. However, from 2020, all internal applicants will be expected to take an assessment just like external candidates.
Applications: The deadline for registering your son for Hampton seven plus is in November.
Registration: click here for Hampton Prep’s seven plus registration form.
Registration fee: £60
Open mornings take place in October and November. Prior booking is essential either online or you can book over the phone by contacting the Admissions Office on 020 8979 1844.
The headmaster’s welcome will commence at 9.30am followed by a tour of the Pre-prep and Prep. You will observe a fully functioning school and be able to gain a feel for the interaction between staff and pupil. The tour will finish at approximately 11am.
Exams are held in maths, English and reasoning in the November of the year preceding entry. This is earlier than most 7+ exams, so don’t get caught out!
They are looking for naturally bright boys with potential.
Hampton Prep does not offer past papers, but recommends commercially available reasoning papers. See below for recommended materials in all areas.
