Introduction
Hampton School, an all-boys independent day school in Hampton, Greater London, has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1557. Its preparatory department, located in a beautiful building off Gloucester Road, is an equally renowned establishment with an excellent track record. [1]
The Prep’s primary focus is to foster among students a deep understanding of a wide range of subjects, including science, arts, technology and humanities. The majority of extracurriculars, including chess, fencing, arts & crafts and table tennis, are student-initiated and run. The school also organises regular excursions to places of historical, geographical and religious significance, as well as museums and art galleries, aimed at broadening children’s perspectives and enhancing their knowledge beyond the busy classroom environment. Hampton Prep’s open events programme offers many activities for visitors to participate in. Upon arrival, you will hear a speech from the Head and take a tour of the school’s facilities. Hampton School 7 Plus (7+) Admissions
There are approximately 36 places available in Year 3. It is assumed that boys coming from Hampton pre-prep will automatically be offered a place at Hampton Prep at 7+, subject to them meeting the required standards of behaviour and progress.
The registration form should be submitted with a payment of a £100 registration fee. The 7+ assessment typically takes place in November of the year preceding entry. Results will be communicated within ten days.
Hampton School 7 Plus (7+) Exam Format
The Hampton School 7+ entrance exam consists of the following assessments:
- English (paper)
- Mathematics (paper)
- Reasoning (online)
The English assessment examines comprehension and writing skills, including spelling, punctuation and grammar, as well as the fluency of your child’s reading and oral skills.
The Maths exam assesses problem-solving abilities and arithmetic skills, including your child’s knowledge of times tables.
The online Reasoning exam is likely to resemble the CAT4 (Cognitive Abilities Test), which assesses Verbal, Non-Verbal, Spatial and Quantitative Reasoning skills.
